The Enemy Gives the Movement Shape
Separate what an opponent did from everything the movement needs that person to explain.
Chapter Four
An enemy can clarify a movement. The practice becomes dangerous when one person is asked to carry every failure, delay, fear, and cost the movement does not want to name.
The complete practice
Name the person standing between you and the goal.
Write what he fears.
Write what he wants.
Write what would make him move.
Do not assume his concern is pure merely because he speaks calmly. Every opponent carries a desire of his own.
I have added one question since I first taught this lesson:
What did he actually do?
Keep that answer separate from everything you needed him to explain.
An enemy may be useful.
He should not be asked to pay every bill.
